Announcement Icasiana De Gala – Executive Director of the Southwest Newcomer Welcome Centre Resigns
It is with much sadness that the Board of the Southwest Newcomer Welcome Centre has accepted the resignation of the Executive Director – Icasiana De Gala. Icasiana began her career with the Newcomer Welcome Centre in 2011, when she filled a maternity leave position for the existing Executive Director. Little did we know at the time, that Icasiana would go on to become the backbone of the Southwest Newcomer Welcome Centre, expanding the organization from a staff of 2 people, to the current staff complement of 14 and growing.
Under Icasiana’s leadership, the Southwest Newcomer Welcome Centre has provided crucial support and become a strong advocate for newcomers to this part of the province. Through Icasiana’s hard work and vision, this organization has become one of the premier gateway service centers in the province.
Icasiana is departing to pursue her career in Law, credentials that she recently completed her Canadian re-certification for. This is just another example of how Icasiana has been a role model for the newcomer population, proving that it’s possible to pursue your goals and dreams here in Canada.
The Board of the Newcomer Welcome Centre wishes to convey our heartfelt thanks to Icasiana for her years of service, and we wish her all the best in her new career. An interim Executive Director is currently in place until June 30th.The search for a permanent Executive Director will get underway in the near future, with the hope of having someone in place by July 1st, 2023.
