Engage in Your Community
When you settle into a new place, building lasting and meaningful connections with your community can help you feel at home. Whether it’s finding people who can help support you, getting involved in a sports team or just making new friends, getting out and seeing your neighbours has a lot of potential benefits.
Get involved in your community.
We at the Welcome Centre understand the importance of community because it helped us when we needed it most. Now we want to help you share in that support. We provide a host of opportunities to meet and engage with the people in your town or city. We’re sure you’ll find one that suits your interest.
Events are a cornerstone of community engagement. Sometimes these are organized solely by the Welcome Centre but our main goal is to partner with other organizations so that you can experience all that our city has to offer. These events are designed to connect newcomers to the existing community by focusing on history and culture. Creating space for everyone to come together and experience the amenities, services and individuals in their neighbourhood gives you the chance to be introduced to someone or something you didn’t know was in your own backyard.
If you’re feeling energetic, we develop sports and recreational activities that connect you with the community, engage in friendly competition and promote cross-cultural exchange.

In addition to events and group activities, we provide mentorship opportunities with members of the community for more in-depth support discussions.

Creating a welcoming community for newcomers.
Immigrating to a new country is challenging and, at times, overwhelming. We certainly understand that and we want the community to know this too. That’s why we try to increase the community’s awareness of the needs and contributions of newcomers. This has and continues to help develop strong community partnerships and identify new opportunities to support people coming to our communities.
